Post-Bulletin Online will soon require print subscription Wednesday, March 28, 2001
Beginning in April, the Post-Bulletin's online news site, which contains much of the newspaper's local content as well as Web-only features, will be available only to P-B subscribers.
Until now, Post-Bulletin Online has been available free of charge, with full access to all news stories, classified advertising and other features. That changes on April 30, when access to the news content will be limited to subscribers only. Other Web users will be able to view only headlines.
Registration tips Questions? Non-subscribers will still have access to classified ads at Post-Bulletin Online. The site is at www.postbulletin.com.
"We want to further develop the bond between our newspaper and our Web site," said General Manager and Editor Jon Losness. "We're looking at the Web site as value-added for our print subscribers."
As part of the change in access, Post-Bulletin Online will offer new features available only to subscribers, including 11 years of archived P-B stories, online chat rooms and other interactive content.
As a first step toward limiting access, visitors to the site will be asked to register. Those who register will have free access through April 30.
Also in April, Post-Bulletin subscribers will be mailed a user identification card that includes a password. That will enable them to access the site after it closes to non-subscribers.
People living outside the Post-Bulletin's seven-county circulation area will be offered a one-year subscription to the online service for $60.
The P-B's online classified advertising, as well as community information and resources, will remain available to all Internet users on the Post-Bulletin Co.'s community Web site at www.rochestermn.com. |
